The Music School of Wilmington is a premier
contemporary music facility that offers specific studies, designed to meet the
needs, criteria, and demands of each student.
Our carefully chosen faculty teach their students
to develop learning steps in
their own personal areas of study.
In every lesson, we aid each student by
furthering the students growth into the musician they aspire to be. The Music
School of Wilmington offers private instruction to beginning, intermediate, and
advance students.
The school provides state of the art facilities,
which includes seven soundproof teaching studios, a recital hall, which seats
over 50 people, along with two large soundproof rehearsal rooms. These studios
will also be used for group class ensembles.
Our teaching studios are equipped with two
complete acoustic drum sets per
studio, guitar amplifiers, bass amplifiers, keyboards and acoustic pianos. In
addition, the school provides musical supplies such as drum sticks, beginner
cymbal packs, saxophone reeds, piano methods, and additional sheet music.
The Music School of Wilmington features
lessons on disc. This unique product allows the students lesson to be
recorded on a mini DVD camcorder, allowing the student to take the lesson home
to work on during the week, in preparation for his/her next lesson.
GUITAR INSTRUCTION:
The Music School of Wilmington's guitar
instructors have not only studied their instrument extensively, but have had
extensive performing experience. Instruction is offered Monday through Friday
mornings and evenings. Appointment times are also offered in the mornings for
home-school students.
BEGINNER LESSONS TEENS AND ADULTS:
Most beginning guitar lessons start with learning
the guitar fret board along with basic reading, developing three note chord
development and accompanied with chord theory. This is also accented through
song form using popular songs. Students are encouraged to share their own
influences and tastes with their instructors.
BASS INSTRUCTION:
The School has two of the finest performers and
instructors teaching in this region. (See Bios section for Taylor Lee)
BEGINNER KIDS AND
ADULTS:
As with beginning guitar studies, students learn
right hand technique, understanding the fret board and beginning chordal theory.
INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED BASS STUDENTS:
Bass studies offer a wide variety of options that
include fretless, fretted, and acoustic bass. Contemporary styles include
popping, slapping techniques, and rhythm section theory. For the intermediate to
advanced student, studio and
stage bound, theory along with reading notation and chart reading to be strongly
emphasized.
DRUMS AND
PERCUSSION INSTRUCTION:
The Music School of Wilmington's percussion staff
is headed by director Lee Venters, Berklee College of Music, Boston Mass. Alum.
1981. Lee has had over 34 years experience as a professional percussionist,
along with 25 years of teaching experience! Lee is also known nationally with
sponsorships from Vic Firth Sticks and Mallets, Sabian Cymbals, Attack Drum
Heads, and Gretsch Drums!
The curriculum will have a strong emphasis on
teaching good technique, reading and notation (covering an introduction to basic
rudiments).
The Student learns basic coordination exercises,
followed by additional needed elements and foundations in notation, rhythmic
theory which include two, three, and four way independent studies.
The school is very familiar with public school
requirements, and will work with each student aiding the accomplishments of his
or her goals.
In addition, the Music School of Wilmington
recognized the need for young drummers exposure to nationally known clinicians,
and artists.
We will provide monthly workshops and clinics
featuring members of our faculty, along with touring clinicians and instructors
The artist's companies and sponsors will help
support these clinics and workshops.
HAND DRUM AND
WORLD PERCUSSION:
The Music School of Wilmington offers world class
lessons in many hand drum instruments. Classes are available for private
lessons. Each lesson provides percussion instruments for both the instructor and
student. The student will
learn the history and origins of their instrument.
Basic classes will include, fundamental applications of each instrument. Conga
lessons are to include basic pop, slap, and tones and rhythms, while
intermediate students will learn more about performances in ensemble settings.
VOCAL INSTRUCTION:
The Music School of Wilmington offers private
vocal instruction which includes studies in modern vocal techniques of Jazz,
Classical, Pop, Rock, and contemporary styles.
WOODWINDS:
The Music School of Wilmington provides private
instruction for saxophone, clarinet, and flute. These classes are available on
all levels and styles. Private instruction features both classical repertoire as
well as a strong emphasis in jazz and improvisation.
